Autobiography of Joan Borthwick
My name is Joan Borthwick, and I was born and raised in a suburban town in Massachusetts, where I’ve made some of my fondest memories. Growing up in a small New England community surrounded by rich history and quiet adventure, I found endless inspiration in the stories that seemed to linger in the air. From an early age, I was captivated by the power of writing stories—the way words could transport readers across time or pull them deep into suspenseful mysteries. It wasn’t long before I began crafting stories of my own, filling worn notebooks with ideas and dreams of one day becoming a published author.
As I grew older, my love for writing deepened and matured. I found myself drawn to the thriller and mystery genres, where tension, emotion, and revelation intertwine to create unforgettable experiences for readers. There’s a unique exhilaration in building a story that keeps people guessing until the very end. Over time, I began weaving in elements of horror and medieval intrigue, exploring the darker edges of human nature and the echoes of the past. My family heritage has also been a great source of inspiration—my roots trace back to Scotland and Italy, with proud connections to both. In fact, Clan Borthwick is one of the oldest clans in Scotland, and I have always been fascinated by its long, storied legacy. I love delving into medieval history and bringing characters from those times to life in my writing, blending the ancient and the modern so that the shadows of history continue to echo through the present.
When I’m not writing, I find peace and inspiration in the great outdoors. Hiking has always been one of my greatest joys—a way to clear my mind and spark creativity. Some of my best story ideas come to me as I walk along forest trails or climb winding mountain paths. The rhythm of hiking mirrors the rhythm of writing—steady, thoughtful, and full of unexpected discoveries. Whether it’s a peaceful morning stroll by Lake Quannapowitt or a challenging hike through the White Mountains, nature reminds me to stay curious, persistent, and open to the world’s hidden stories.
Beyond my love for writing and exploring, I also have a deep passion for collecting sports trading cards. Each card tells its own story—a moment in time, a symbol of dedication, and a piece of history captured in color and print. My favorite player has always been Babe Ruth, not only for his legendary achievements but for his boundless charisma and love for the game. His story embodies passion, perseverance, and heart—values that I strive to bring into my own creative work. As I continue to write new tales of suspense, mystery, and thrillers I’m endlessly grateful for the readers who share in my adventures. Thank you to all my readers—I truly appreciate you!
